There are many different variations for an all purpose cleaner recipe. Most have either liquid castile soap or vinegar for cleaning.
My husband doesn't like the smell of vinegar, so I like to make a homemade all purpose cleaner without vinegar.

What is Thieves Oil?
This all purpose cleaner recipe is based on the Thieves cleaner from another company. The oils used in Thieves have antimicrobial properties, so it's commonly used in cleaners.

Defender is Simply Earth's version of Thieves. It's a blend of cinnamon leaf, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus, and clove bud essential oils. I use it to make a Thieves household cleaner recipe for a lot less.
Is Thieves Good for Cleaning?
Individually, the oils in Thieves are antimicrobial and kill a variety of germs. This Thieves cleaner alternative is made with Defender, which has the same oils, and behaves similarly.
The essential oils are highly diluted, so they will not be as effective as using pure undiluted essential oils. However, you have to dilute essential oils to use them safely.
Besides, a homemade all purpose cleaner with essential oils that isn't diluted would be too expensive to use often.
What Are Cleaning Tablets?
Cleaning tablets are small solid tablets that you dissolve in water to make an easy DIY all purpose cleaner. They are made with sodium bicarbonate, DL-TARTARIC acid, sodium lauroyl glutamate, citric acid, sodium benzoate, and sodium chloride.
I love using them because they are inexpensive and so easy to use. Simply drop a tablet in a jar or pitcher and fill with water to make a cleaning tablet spray. Then you can add essential oils to make a Thieves household cleaner recipe.
It's important to note that this all purpose cleaner recipe doesn't have a preservative. It's shelf stable for about two weeks, or you can add Geogard ECT to extend the shelf life of your cleaning spray recipe.
How Do I Use Homemade All Purpose Cleaner For Cleaning?
You can use this cleaning tablet spray for most hard surfaces in your home. I use it on my kitchen counters, to clean my sink, to spray stains on clothes to pretreat, and in the bathroom.
Easy DIY All Purpose Cleaner Ingredients
You will need the following to make a homemade all purpose cleaner with essential oils:
- 1 cleaning tablet
- 16 ounces water
- 40 drops Defender essential oil blend
- 16 ounce spray bottle
- 5 ml (0.16 ounces) Geogard ECT (optional)
How Do You Make All Purpose Cleaning Spray?
Step #1
In a large pitcher or jar, combine the cleaning tablet and the essential oils.
Step #2
Add distilled water and stir to mix. The tablet will fizz for several minutes.
Step #3
Once it has fully dissolved, pour into the spray bottle. Use this Thieves oil cleaning spray recipe on hard surfaces to remove dirt.
Add Geogard ECT if desired for a preservative. Otherwise, this all purpose spray recipe will last about 2 weeks.
