How to Make Foaming Hand Soap From Liquid Soap

How to make foaming hand soap with Castile soap.  Making your own foaming liquid hand soap recipe helps save money on hand soap, and it's very easy to make.  This is a wonderful hand soap recipe that I keep in the bath and in the kitchen.

DIY Foaming Hand Soap Recipe

We go through an insane amount of hand soap.  I was using regular bottles of soap, but we were using a bottle every 2 to 3 days!

I can't use the cheap hand soaps because of the eczema on my hands, so the cheap hand soap refills are out for us.

I switched to a foaming soap.  It gets your hands clean, but it uses less soap per pump.  I also make foaming hand soap from liquid soap.

The lets me control the ingredients and use essential oils for a natural scent.

What's the Point of Foaming Hand Soap?

Learning how to make foaming hand soap at home saves money and water.  Foaming hand soap is easier to rinse off than regular soap, so you use less water rinsing.  If you apply the soap to dry hands, you'll use even less water while washing.

You use less soap per pump, so you save money.  You dilute the soap with water, so you'll save quite a bit of money!

You can also reuse your foaming soap dispenser, so there's less waste.  One bottle of liquid castile soap lasts me for months.  I then reuse the bottle for DIY cleaning recipes or recycle it.

Can I Refill Foaming Hand Soap?

Yes, you can refill a foaming hand soap dispenser to reuse.  You can use your favorite liquid hand soap or learn how to make foaming hand soap with castile soap like I did.

Personally, I like the castile soap because I can add my own scents.  It's a gentle soap that's well tolerated by most skin types.

Can You Put Any Liquid in a Foaming Dispenser?

You can use other types of soap to make foaming hand soap from liquid soap.  You can use your favorite hand soap or liquid castile soap.

However, it's important to dilute it.  If you do not dilute the soap with water, it will be too thick to work in the foaming dispenser.

How Much Essential Oil Do I Add to Foaming Hand Soap?

Since soap is a wash off product, you can use up to a 2 percent dilution.  This means that you can use up to 12 drops of essential oils per ounce.

I use 25 drops per 10 ounces of this foaming liquid hand soap recipe.  It's enough for a scent without being overpowering.

However, you can use up to 120 drops per 10 ounce batch of DIY foaming hand soap recipe.

Use an essential oil dilution chart to know how much to use in your recipes.

Why is My Foaming Hand Soap Not Foaming?

There are a few reasons why your foaming liquid hand soap recipe isn't foaming well.  The ratio of liquid soap and water is important.

If you have too much water, the soap is too thin and can't make bubbles.  If there's too much soap, then the soap dispenser can get clogged and won't foam.

Foaming soap bottles don't last forever.  They can get dried bits of soap in them and get clogged.  You will need to clean or replace your bottle if this happens.

For this reason, I don't recommend using a DIY foaming hand soap recipe in a guest bathroom or where it won't be used often.

How Long Does DIY Foaming Hand Soap Last?

Since there's no preservative, this foaming hand soap recipe with essential oils will last about 3 to 4 weeks.  I make one batch at a time because it doesn't last a long time.

You can also add Optiphen Plus or Geogard ECT as a preservative.  The amount that you use depends on which one you use, so be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Essential Oils for DIY Foaming Hand Soap Recipe

I used Defender, which is Simply Earth's version of Thieves Oil.  You can also use Germ Fighter from Plant Therapy or Germ Destroyer for a kid safe option.  You can also learn how to make Thieves Oil.

For fun scents, try one of these essential oil blends that smells like candy.  I also like lemon essential oil, especially for the kitchen.

If you want more variety, Nature's Oils has a big selection of natural fragrance oils.  They have floral scents, bakery scents, and more.

Bottles to Make Foaming Hand Soap From Liquid Soap

I have reused foaming pump bottles, but they don't last long.  They clog and eventually the pump wears out and they need replaced.

I bought these foaming hand soap bottles almost three years ago.  We use two of them daily in the kitchen and the bath, and they've held up great.
