Mason Jar Lid Vegetable Garden Markers
Although we use a map to plan the garden each year, things change when you're actually planting. Sometimes we have more seeds than we had planned, and other times our spacing is off.
That's where vegetable garden markers come in. We like to mark each row with a stake and then make a new chart so we know what is where.
I also use herb garden markers for my herbs because my brain is usually not functioning in the spring, and I forget a lot.

Why You'll Love These DIY Garden Markers
Easy to Make. These herb garden markers are so easy to make! This is a great craft for kids or adults. Since you use a printable (find it below near the directions), you don't need to be artistic or have good handwriting.
Upcycled Materials. Since you can't reuse canning lids, using them for canning jar lid crafts is a great way to reuse them. I also used them to make mason jar lid ornaments. (I use the rings to make a DIY hanging bird feeder.)
Inexpensive to Make. Since you reuse old lids, these DIY garden markers are very easy to make. You may need to buy wood craft stocks, or you can use some leftover from a previous craft.
Supplies Needed for Markers for Garden
Here's what you need to learn how to make plant markers:
Mason Jar Lids. I used previously used regular mouth canning lids. You can't reuse them for food canning, but you can use them for mason jar lid crafts. You can also buy new mason jar lids if you don't have any.
Wood Craft Sticks. I used the large size for more durability. You can use whatever you have on hand.
Hot Glue Gun. I used hot glue to attach the lids to the craft sticks.
Outdoor Mod Podge. If you use these herb garden markers outdoors, then I recommend sealing them with outdoor Mod Podge.
Sticker Paper or Cardstock. I used a sheet of sticker paper and used my Cricut Explore and used the print and cut function. You can also use Avery 2 inch round labels and print directly on the labels. Alternately, you can use a 2 inch round punch to cut out the plant labels or use scissors and cut by hand.
Customizing Your DIY Mason Jar Lid Plant Markers
Now that we've covered the basics, let's explore creative ways to customize your mason jar lid plant markers:
Paint the Lids. You can use acrylic paint to paint the lids before adding the stickers.
Chalkboard Paint. You can also use chalkboard paint to paint the lids and hand write the name of the plant. I recommend this for indoor use only.
Use Old Seed Packets. If you want to use pictures of the plants, use old seed packets instead of the herb garden labels printable sheets.
Vintage Jar Lids. Use vintage jar lids or unique lids instead of reusing canning jar lids.
